Kyiv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Art and Design named after Mykhailo Boychuk was founded under the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 12.10.99 on base of the Kyiv Art and Industry College. And its way began with the Kiev College of Applied Arts (1938–1957). The institute passed the test of social and cultural changes that have occurred over recent decades in Ukraine and involved prominent figures of culture and art: People’s Artist of Ukraine, the first winner of Catherine Bilokur Prize Martha Timchenko, People’s Artist of Ukraine Maria Primachenko , Honored Master of Folk Art of Ukraine Ivan Skytsyuk, Ivan Gonchar, Tetyana Pata, Makar Muha, Pauline Glushchenko, Masters of folk art of Ukraine Natalia Vovk, Paraska Vlasenko, Alexander Kulik, Alexandra Hryadunova, painters Vasily Sedlyar, Ivan Padalka and many others. It’s typical for our institute to train “universal” specialists who have extensive theoretical and practical level of education in applied art and design, as dreamed Michael Boychuk, whose name our institute is proud to wear.
